How to choose a good moving company

Many moving boxes

Have you decided to get help from a professional moving company for your move? Whether it's a residential or commercial move, it's a good idea to do some background research on the moving company. While most movers are reliable and responsible, there are also companies that don't have their act together.

Read more in this post and learn more about tips for your move.

Is the moving company a member of DMF?

It's wise to check if the moving company is a member of the Danish Furniture Removal Association(DMF). This is a clear indicator that the moving company is responsible and that the employees have decent working conditions.

At Mesterflyt we are a member of DMF, as we want to ensure the best conditions for our customers and employees.

Do they offer competitive prices?

It's always a good idea to compare the quotes you receive with each other. For example, if you get a quote that's well below the average of what other moving companies offer, you should check if it's too good to be true.

There are always costs associated with a move. While prices should of course be competitive compared to other movers, a very low price can also indicate that the moving company is not the safest or most reliable in the industry.

Check reviews online

One of the easiest ways to find a reliable and safe moving company is to check out what others write online. A quick Google search or reviews on TrustPilot can give you insight into other people's experiences with the moving company, which can help you decide whether to use them for your residential or commercial move.

Ask for recommendations from friends and family

It's quick and easy to ask friends and family members for moving company recommendations. Based on their recommendations, you can investigate the company further either on Trustpilot or by looking it up in the CVR register. Some moving companies close down and reappear shortly after with a new name, so it's wise to do a background check on the company.

Does the moving company only offer moving on an hourly rate?

Many moving companies offer both fixed and hourly rates, and you may want to check how the price is calculated. One is not necessarily better than the other.

With an hourly rate, be aware that you don't know the final price and the price may be higher than originally estimated if the move takes longer than expected. However, if you only need help with a small part of the move, it can be an advantage to choose an hourly rate.

You should also be aware that mileage is calculated from the moving company leaving from their own address.

Is the moving company a member of Danske Vognmænd?

It is advantageous to choose a moving company that is a member of Danske Vognmænd (DTL), as they ensure that the everyday life of the movers runs as efficiently and smoothly as possible.

To become a member of Danske Vognmænd, the moving company must have high business ethics. Therefore, membership with DTL is your guarantee that the moving company meets the market's highest standards and complies with DMF's General Terms and Conditions.

Mesterflyt is a member of DTL, so you can rest assured that we comply with all the standards below to make your move as painless as possible.

Mesterflyt are ready to help with your move

Are you looking for a responsible and professional moving company to handle your residential or commercial move? Mesterflyt is a member of both DMF and DTL, and we even prioritize environmentally friendly moving, which is why we have drawn up a CSR policy.

We're always ready to help, and if you need tips for your move, we can also offer advice to make the process more manageable for you.

Family with children and need to move?

Relocation for private families

A private move is already a big change that can be difficult both practically and emotionally. For a family with children, it can be an even more difficult process. But don't worry - we've put together some tips and advice for families with children facing a move.

Read more here about moving with children and learn how to make the process easy and enjoyable for all parties.

How do you tell your children that you're moving?

Moving house isn't easy and balancing the practicalities with life as a family with children can be difficult. It can be more complicated if the children are young and don't fully understand what it means to move. Conversely, it can also be tough if the children are older and have a network to move away from. Regardless of the age of the children, moving with children can present several challenges.

  • Break the news as early as possible:

It's a big decision to make when you're moving your family. That's why it's usually a decision that's made many months before the actual move. If this is the case, it's a good idea to tell the children about the move as soon as it's finalized. The longer the children have to get used to the move, the easier it will be for them.

  • Prepare for the children's reaction:

You need to prepare for the fact that your children may be upset, angry or disappointed by the decision to move. Therefore, you need to prepare for their reaction so that you don't react negatively to their immediate response. In this case, two negatives don't equal a positive outcome - quite the opposite, in fact.

  • Acknowledge the children's feelings:

It's best to acknowledge your children's feelings regardless of their reaction to the move. Empathize with their feelings and help them to understand what they are feeling and how to deal with it.

  • Give the kids details:

Everyone needs information about a new change if they are to process it. This also applies to children when they are moving house. So tell them all the information they need to know and answer their questions. By giving them details about their new home, you're giving them something to look forward to instead, turning any negative reaction into a positive one.

  • Show the kids their new home before you move:

In line with giving the kids something to get excited about, it's a good idea to show them pictures of their future home. Let them see pictures of their rooms and if possible, visit the house and your future hometown before your move.

  • Let the kids adjust to the new place:

A private move requires adjustment time for all parties, so give children time to get used to their new home. Although children's adaptability is far stronger and quicker than adults, a change as big as moving can require extra time.

The practical moving tips for families with children

In addition to keeping an eye on the kids, there are also a lot of practical things to take care of. To make your private move as simple as possible, we've put together some tips for those who are moving house with children.

  • Plan and prepare for your move well in advance.
  • Let the kids be involved in the move itself.
  • Get childcare if you need it.
  • Pack room by room.
  • Pack the children's room last.

A good start is half done, and if you plan your move carefully as a family, you'll be doing both your children and yourself a big favor. However, as a family with children, time is already at a premium and with a move on top of that, there are even fewer hours in the day. It can be a good idea to get outside help when moving with children.

Let Mesterflyt help your family move

If you are moving house with children, it is advantageous to use a professional moving company moving company. No matter where in Denmark your family with children is located, we are ready to help. Tips for an eco-friendly move

The UN Sustainable Development Goals wheel in color

Whether it is a matter of business relocation or private relocationit's in the best interest of the environment if green solutions are considered to create the most environmentally friendly move possible.

That's why we've put together a number of tips for your move to make it more sustainable.

Check out our tips for an eco-friendly move and contact us if you need a hand with your move.

        • Reuse the original boxes

If you have saved the original boxes for old electronics, furniture or other items, use them when you move! Not only will you save money on buying new boxes, but you'll also save the environment by reusing.

        • Use containers that you already own:

You already have several storage solutions in your home that you can use for moving. Suitcases, drawers, bags, plastic bags, duffel bags, tote bags, sports bags and whatever else you can think of can all be used for moving. You save money, time and it makes for a much more environmentally friendly move.

        • Rent your moving boxes

Another way to have an environmentally friendly move is to rent or borrow moving boxes. This method is gradually becoming more widespread in Denmark and is a smart and easy way for you to protect the environment.

        • Sell and donate

Throwing things away because you no longer need them is a huge waste. If your items are fine, sell or donate them instead. Also, remember that even if you can't see the value of an item, it's better to take it to a recycling center and let them assess whether the item can be resold. One person's junk can be someone else's gold!

        • Be responsible when throwing out waste

Some things obviously can't be saved and must be thrown away. Remember to sort your waste into the right categories at the recycling center. This way, you'll help the environment as much as possible and make your move more environmentally friendly.

        • Rent a storage unit

By renting a storage unit closer to your new location where your belongings can be stored, you save the environment from several long trips back and forth. It is also possible to choose a storage companythat focuses on the environment and sustainability.

        • Make sure you have a big enough moving van

You won't have a very eco-friendly move if you choose to drive back and forth in a small car with your belongings. Unless you own an electric car, it's better to use a large moving van to minimize fuel consumption.

        • Buy eco-friendly materials

You can buy both tape and bubble wrap, which is more environmentally friendly. So if you're buying materials for new, go for the products that are made from the greenest materials.

Contact Mesterflyt for an eco-friendly commercial or residential move

Mesterflyt is a moving companythat wants to create a sustainable future for the way we move in a global and changing world. That's why we have also created a CSR strategy that can lead us towards long-term and sustainable solutions.

All our packaging boxes are made from a minimum of 70% recycled FSC-labeled paper and 25% wood from sustainable forestry. Once the box has served its purpose, it is taken to a recycling center where the cardboard is recycled and used to make a moving box again.

Give us a call on tel. +45 61 700 750 750 or fill out the contact form - and you'll receive a good, no-obligation quote for an environmentally friendly commercial or private move.

Should you hire a moving company? Then read on here

        Moving with relocation distress

Moving can be a big job, whether you're moving your home or your business. That's why there are several advantages to hiring a professional moving company that can handle all the practicalities.

Read more about the benefits of using a professional moving company and find out what you need to consider before your move.

        Moving company or move yourself?

Are you facing a private relocation? The moving process can be both difficult and confusing for many. Moving is hard mentally and physically. Firstly, the whole family has to adjust to a new address. Secondly, carrying heavy moving boxes is hard on the body. That's why it's an advantage to use a moving companythat takes care of the practicalities, so you only have to spend energy on mentally adjusting to your new surroundings.

A professional moving company can take care of boxes, packing your furniture, the actual move and unpacking. This saves you a lot of time and effort, and your furniture is in safe and experienced hands to ensure it gets through the move in one piece. What's more, a professional and proper moving company will have insurance to compensate you in the event of an accident.

Is it worth hiring a moving company?

There are many benefits to hiring a professional moving company as it makes the moving process much simpler and easier. However, before choosing a moving company, it's a good idea to ask them the right questions to make sure you get the help you need.

Ask these questions before you hire a moving company:

        • What moving services do you offer?
        • Do you have moving insurance?
        • How many movers do you provide?
        • How do you calculate the price?
        • What happens if I cancel the move?

These questions will give you all the knowledge you need to decide if professional help with your move is the right solution for you.

        Moving company for commercial relocation?

If your company is moving premises, it pays to have a professional moving company take care of the practicalities. When commercial relocation the movers will take care of packing IT equipment and other inventory, packing archives, moving belongings to new premises and setting everything up correctly.

At Mesterflyt , we provide a relocation consultant for commercial moves to ensure that the entire move goes smoothly. Whether it's a small office, a department or an entire company, professional commercial relocation gives you and your employees the peace of mind to focus on your work.

        International contracts and annual audit

Mesterflyt has also prepared a full CSR strategy with sections on human rights, anti-corruption measures, labour rights as well as climate and environment. In this context, a CSR committee has been set up consisting of key people in the office, and the company commits to an annual CSR reporting with open communication on the status of KPIs.

It all looks very formalized and academic, and the question arises whether it is really necessary for a Danish moving company.

"We meet it as a requirement in many of the contracts we sign with international groups and large companies," Victor Helgogaard explains, "So if we want the customers, we also need to be in control of all the processes." A concrete example is that many require an annual audit where Mesterflyt illustrates the year's progress in relation to sustainable transition.

It is barely a year since the CSR strategy was signed on 26 November 2020, so the first progress report has not yet been published.

Let Mesterflyt take care of the move

Whether it's a residential or commercial move, Mesterflyt is ready to help. We offer both storage and various moving services so you don't have to lift a finger.

        Moving tips for business relocation

        Relocation of Mesterflyt

Are you moving your office to a new location soon? There are several considerations that are good to make before a commercial move. Planning from the start makes it less complicated in the end, and with an investment in good movers and storage units, your commercial move will be a success.

Here are the best moving tips for your business relocation to ensure you and your employees have an easy moving process.

        Advice for your business relocation

        Start early

If you want to avoid headaches on moving day, it's a good idea to start planning your business relocation several months before the actual move. Book your movers a few months in advance and arrange for storage space if you need it. During this period, it's also wise to set a budget for how much money you'll need to spend on the move so you can get an overview of your expenses.

The things you and your workplace don't use on a daily basis, you might as well start packing well in advance so you have more time during the move itself.

Invest in high-quality packaging and equipment

If you want to reduce the risk of your inventory breaking during the move, make sure you invest in quality packing and equipment. Moving boxes. Sack trucks. Transport trolleys. Lifting bars. Bubble wrap. Newsprint - the list is long. But to get your office belongings through in one piece, it's good to have your equipment in order. Get commercial moving help from a professional moving company moving companythey will most likely have the necessary moving materials and accessories.

        Sell and donate

When the workplace moves office, there are bound to be items that are no longer needed. Instead of just throwing things out, they can either be sold or donated for others to enjoy. Facebook Marketplace, DBA and GulogGratis are all sites where you can get rid of company belongings quickly and easily.

Find a moving company with insurance

One of the most important moving tips is to choose a moving company with insurance - whether you're private move or a commercial move. It can be tempting to just go for the cheapest option when it comes to movers. But it's important that your belongings are insured in the unlikely event that something breaks during the move.

If you choose an insured moving company, the movers are responsible for your belongings when they have them. If they damage anything, it will be covered by the moving company's insurance. If the moving company is not insured, it will be difficult for you to get compensation, and since commercial moves often involve expensive belongings, it is a clear advantage to have moving insurance.

Sort office belongings with colored labels

Colored labels are a great way to keep track of your office belongings. You can use these labels to show the movers where different boxes go in the new office. For example, yellow labels for your office, pink for the accountant's office, green for archives, etc.

        Pack electronics the right way

Computers and other electronics should be packed so that they are simple and easy to set up in the new office. Use the original packaging if you still have it, and if you have fairly sophisticated connections, take pictures before packing to make it easier to reassemble after the move. Pack monitors well to minimize the chance of them getting damaged and pack cables and other accessories that belong to electronic devices with the ones they belong to.

        Separate office furniture

Office furniture is a bit of a hassle to pack up when moving offices as it takes up a lot of space. To make it easier, you can disassemble the furniture to make it easier to easier to transport. It's also a good idea to tape drawers and cabinet doors so they don't open up during the move.

Here are 10 tips for your next move

Moving house can be a tedious and boring process. There's a lot to keep track of and many things to take care of. That's why we've put together a number of tips to give you a better overview of the process and make it a little more manageable. If you follow these tips, you'll hopefully have a smooth and pleasant move.

        1. Tidy up your belongings thoroughly

Our first piece of advice is based on the part of the move that you should start with - tidying and sorting. We may have unknowingly accumulated a lot of clothes, kitchen items and the like that we don't use and that you probably won't use in your new home. There's no point in moving things that you're not going to use anyway, so it's a good idea to start by sorting through your belongings. Items that you no longer need can either be sold online, for example via DBA, or you can donate them to organizations such as Red Cross or DanChurchAid.

        2. Book movers well in advance

If you need help from a moving company moving company for your private moveit's a good idea to book well in advance. Although there are many different moving companies, it's a good idea to book one well in advance as many can be fully booked if you choose to do it at the last minute.

        3. Pack and sort well in advance

Once you've organized your belongings, it's time to start packing. The earlier you start packing your belongings, the more organized and thoughtful your packing will be. You can start by packing the items you won't need until after the move - preferably a month before you move.

        4. Keep your moving boxes from getting too heavy

Watch your weight when packing your moving boxes. The rule of thumb is that the box shouldn't weigh more than 20 kilos, and ideally you should be able to lift it out with your arms straight for a few seconds.

It's a good idea to pack heavy items in the bottom of the moving box so it doesn't collapse when boxes are stacked on top.

        5. Use ink- and acid-free wrapping paper

If you need to wrap fragile items, it's a good idea to use blackened and acid-free wrapping paper that doesn't contain any toxic waste, such as newsprint.

        6. Use labels to tell where the boxes are going

It's very common to write what the boxes contain on the outside with labels. If you instead write where each box goes after arrival, you'll save a lot of time rearranging afterwards. For example, winter jackets might go to the basement or extra plates might go to the attic instead of the kitchen.

        7. Make sure you're packed for the day

If you have friends and acquaintances who have been kind enough to offer their help, it's a good idea to have everything prepared and ready for when they arrive. There's nothing more annoying than showing up to a moving mess.

        8. Pamper your helpers

When your friends and acquaintances have been kind enough to volunteer to help with your move, it's a good idea to remember to treat them as a thank you for their help. Make sure there are plenty of drinks for them and end the day with pizza or something similar. That way, they'll hopefully want to help out if you have to move again one day.

        9. Take pictures of advanced electronics

If you're not technically inclined, it can be a bit of a challenge to set up electronics after taking them down. If you're going to set up electronic devices yourself afterwards, it's a good idea to take pictures of them before you pack them up. That way you'll have a better chance of reassembling it later.

        10. Empty the freezer in good time

One relatively important thing that is often forgotten is the freezer. A freezer needs at least one day, preferably two, to get rid of all the frost inside. It's therefore a good idea to empty and turn it off well in advance of the move. Then remember to empty it of water once everything has thawed.
